Alt Bier (or Old Beer) is a style of German beer that I discovered on Dusseldorf. Their Old Town is a fantastic venue for a pub crawl and has it’s own brewery-pubs! So these breweries in Old Town call their style of beer, Old Beer. This is because it’s some traditional recipe that’s hundreds of years old.
Many German’s drink pils (lager) but as I’m not a big fan of that I soon switched to Alt Bier. It’s a clear, dark brown ale with a large fluffy head and usually served in 1/2 or 1/3 tall glasses. If you ever visit the local breweries, then the waiters will run round with dozens of them on trays and just throw them at you. It’s a great atmosphere!
